Now that the warm weather is behind us, a recurring topic of discussion is how to dress your child in a footmuff.
There is no right or wrong answer and it all depends on how warm and insulated the footmuff is, how cold it is outside and what you intend to do.
What should we think about?
Have you ever been camping? Then you may know that in order to keep warm in a sleeping bag, you have to remove a layer of clothing. The sleeping bag warms up with your body heat. If you wear too many layers, you will sweat and your body will not be able to warm up the sleeping bag. If you wear a thin layer of wool, you will be warm and let the heat escape to warm the sleeping bag. The same applies to babies and clothes to be worn in a footmuff.
WHAT TO WEAR IN A FOOTMUFF: TO TAKE A NAP?
If the footmuff is warm and well insulated, the baby's body will warm the inside of the footmuff. It may therefore be a good idea to reduce the number of layers of clothing.
WHAT TO WEAR IN A FOOTMUFF: FOR ADVENTURE
When you go to the playground or to outdoor activities, dress your baby or young child appropriately so that he or she can get out of the footmuff to play. Wear a wetsuit or bring clothing that protects against snow, rain and sand.
WHAT TO WEAR IN A FOOTMUFF: WHEN WALKING AROUND TOWN
If you go for a walk and your baby wants to sit up, you can lower the top part to allow him to put his arms out. You will need to put on a warm jumper and/or jacket, depending on the weather.
Always cover the child's head with a hat. The body loses heat through the head and the head is never covered by a footmuff.
The Inaya footmuff is warm and soft and can be used in any weather. You can fold the top down and let the child's arms out and even unzip the front completely on nice days. This turns your footmuff into a cosy pram seat. Click here to find out more about the Inaya footmuff
